The world has never seen such pile of freezing heat crap

Global Warming
Global Warming. The Earth became the newest Waterworld. by SoftPIX_Techie

There is an article by By Christopher Booker which goes something like this.

A surreal scientific blunder last week raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming. On Monday, Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore's chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record.

This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China's official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its "worst snowstorm ever". In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years.

The Story of Stuff - a new future is possible

Simple, effective and pretty accurate. It summarises in 20 minutes what I try to do every day and why. A must see.

Another Good Candidate - Dennis Kucinich

Am I a blind Ron Paul support all the way down? No. I do recognise that some of his positions aren't right, but they represent the minor problems. If Ron Paul did not win, I would like Dennis Kucinich to win. His positions strongly differ from Paul's ones, such as healthcare and education. However, they both agree on the substance and on the most important things, they have the same goals with different means to achieve them.

Nanosolar - Finally clean and cheap solar energy

Now now... can somebody tell why solar energy did not become ubiquitous in the World? The answer is very simple, it's expensive. Typically a house needs 3KW per hour of energy, and to achieve that with solar panels you would spend about $40,000 $34,000. Even with the 55% incentive that the Italian government gives you it's nearly impossible to consider it affordable for an average family. The rest of the world offers has slightly similar conditions, some a bit better and some other a bit worse.

The bottom line is: Solar power is way too expensive to be used at a large scale. A typical installation will need circa 20 12 years to recover the cost and start saving money. That of course does not take into account the whole picture, in fact the entropy of the system dramatically decreases, having no oil, no coal, no nuclear waste, no CO2 emissions and so on you are actually living sustainably as far as the environment is concerned.

Blog Action Day - Zero Waste

Today is the Blog Action Day. People are talking and doing something, so here I am, I stand before you to talk about an issue that has been of great concern to me: Zero Waste.

Since it's difficult to be exhaustive in a mere blog post I will focus on a single issue that embraces lots of others.

The Zero Waste Alliance is a non-profit partnership of universities, government, business and other organizations working to develop, promote and apply Zero Waste strategies.

Our Mission is to support organizations in the creation of a more sustainable future.

Our Objective is to provide improved profitability, competitiveness and environmental performance through the development and implementation of practices that lead to the reduction and elimination of waste and toxics.

"Zero Waste cuts costs, improves competitiveness and improves environmental performance."

The point is that a society should not have waste. If it's not reusable, recyclable or you cannot compost it, you should not produce it. Period. More information is about to come, I'm in a bit of a hurry right now, I just want to keep my promise and give my contribution. Here it goes. Print them out, spread the word. Recycle. ^_^
